Our Story
Last year, while on a field trip for our AP Biology class, we saw a manatee that was injured by Turkey Creek. After this incident, we decided to contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Ultimately, this experience led to the idea of the Manatee Monitor.
The Manatee Monitor
Our mission is to reduce manatee injuries and fatalities by providing a reliable, real-time thermal detection system that alerts boaters when manatees are present in high-risk waterways.The vision for the Manatee Monitor is to create safer waterways where human activity and marine life can coexist, using impactful technology to protect vulnerable species like manatees.
The Team
We are a group of three women who chose to complete our Junior Achievement project on preventing manatee deaths and injuries.

Nicole is incredibly involved with many other activities like softball, SNHS, NHS, Student Government, and BETA!CMO: Khloe Procter
Khloe is also very impressive with involvement. She is currently part of Varsity Cheerleading, SNHS, NHS, Student Government, and also BETA!CFO: Haley Jara
Haley is quite impressive outside this project as well! She is currently involved with Varsity Cheerleading, NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, FFEA, Student Government and BETA too!
Through this excellent opportunity, team Manatee Monitor has learned so many things! We learned to persevere when others put us down, be resilient with our work, and always to put our all into everything we do.
